Biography

Giovanni Marsicano  DVM, PhD leads the Endocannabinoids and neuroadaptation  team at INSERM in Bordeaux, France

His team research is directed towards understanding the molecular basis of behavioural adaptation. In particular, we are interested in the endocannabinoid system (ECS) which regulates many important brain fonctions such as anxiety, food intake and energy balance.

His program areas include: Synapse, Normal and pathological cognition, Vunerability and drug addiction, Neuropsychopharmacology and therapeutics of the deficiencies – transverse axis, and Nutrition and the brain

FENS Themes: Cognition and behaviour / Animal cognition and behaviour ; Neurological and psychiatric conditions / Epilepsy ; Neurological and psychiatric conditions / Neurodegenerative disorders ; Autonomic, limbic and other systems / Regulation of food intake and body weight ; Autonomic, limbic and other systems / Stress and the brain

Scientific expertise: cannabinoids ; endocannabinoid system ; anxiety ; cognitive et behavioural analysis of learning and memory processes ; extinction of fear ; epilepsy ; degenerative disease ; food intake, transgenic mice ; passive or active avoidance ; fear conditioning ; conditional knock-out ; conditional overexpression ; molecular biology ; immunohistochemistry ; in situ hybridization ; cellular neurobiology ; cellular imaging.

Dr Marsicano will speak on Cannabinoid CB1 receptor signaling in the brain: from pharmacology to physiology and back
